Cours de gymnastique

Elsa va faire du sport tous les jeudis. Ce qu’elle préfère, c’est la gymnastique. Il faut faire beaucoup d’efforts. Les exercices sont difficiles et la prof est exigeante. Au moment le plus critique, lorsqu’on est tout en sueur, on l’entend crier : « Allez ! On lève les bras ! Comme ça, voilà ! Les mains bien au dessus de la tête. »

Au début, Aude avait tout le temps des courbatures dans les jambes, surtout dans les cuisses. Mais elle s’y est habituée peu à peu, et maintenant ses jambes ne la font presque plus souffrir. En plus, elle a beaucoup moins mal au dos depuis qu’elle a commencé la gymnastique. Le sport, c’est bon pour la santé, et Aude aime rester en forme.

Matthieu voit les choses différemment. Il aimerait bien maigrir un peu – il trouve que son ventre est trop gros - mais le sport, ce n’est pas son truc. Brigitte, elle aussi, a quelques comptes à régler avec la gymnastique. Elle n’arrive pas à amener ses genoux jusqu’à la poitrine. Les étirements, elle déteste ça. « Allez, allez ! On ne fait pas semblant d’être fatigué ! C’est parti pour un tour en talons-fesses ! »

À la fin tout le monde est essoufflé. Matthieu a de la sueur qui lui coule sur le front. Heureusement, la gymnastique c’est fini pour aujourd’hui. La prof, comme d’habitude, est très contente de ses élèves.

Translation

Elsa does sport every Thursday. Gymnastics is her favourite. It’s hard work. The exercises are difficult and the instructor is demanding. At the worst possible moment, when you’re drenched in sweat, you hear “Let’s go! Raise your arms! That’s right, just like that! Put your hands high above your head!”

At first, Aude had aches and pains in her legs all the time, especially in her thighs. But she got used to it little by little and now her legs barely hurt anymore. Moreover, she has a lot less back pain since she started gymnastics. Sport is good for your health and Aude likes keeping fit.

Matthieu sees things differently. He’d like to lose some weight — he thinks his stomach is too big — but sport isn’t his cup of tea. Brigitte also has issues with gymnastics. She can’t lift her knees up to her chest. She hates stretching. “Go, go! Don’t act like you’re tired! It’s time to run some laps with high knees!”

By the end everyone is out of breath. Matthieu has sweat running down his brow. Fortunately, gymnastics is over for today. As usual, the instructor is proud of her students.
