Les vacances d'hiver

« Il a neigé ! » cria Jean tout excité lorsqu’il regarda par la fenêtre ce matin-là. Il était allé à la montagne avec ses amis Sophie, Charles et Félix pour les vacances d’hiver. Mais jusque-là, il n’y avait pas eu assez de neige pour faire du ski. À présent, tout était blanc, le sol était recouvert de 50 centimètres de neige. Il avait dû neiger toute la nuit !

Jean réveilla vite ses amis qui eux aussi en crurent à peine leurs yeux. « Enfin ! » s’écrièrent-ils. Ils étaient tous de gros dormeurs, mais rien ne les retint au lit. Ils voulaient aller dans la neige aussi vite que possible. Même le froid ne les dérangeait pas, il y avait en effet beaucoup à faire. Tout d’abord, les amis construisirent un bonhomme de neige. Puis ils firent une bataille de boules de neige. Ils allèrent dans les montagnes avec la luge et le snowboard. Sophie avait même emporté ses patins à glace.

Les enfants n’étaient pas les seuls à se réjouir de la neige. Derrière eux, on pouvait voir des skieurs monter en télésiège et descendre à skis à toute vitesse. Il y avait aussi un ours blanc équipé de skis ! Seul le bonhomme de neige tremblait de froid, il aurait aimé être en été. Il avait un rhume et des stalactites de glace pendaient à son nez.

Comment ? Un bonhomme de neige enrhumé et un ours blanc à ski ? Jean se retourna déconcerté. Oh non ! Il était encore dans son lit, ce n’était qu’un rêve ! Déçu, il regarda la rue par la fenêtre. Mais, un moment ! Tout était bien blanc !

« Il a neigé ! » cria Jean tout excité pour réveiller ses amis.

Translation

Winter Holidays

“It snowed!” shouted Jean excitedly when he looked out of the window that morning. He had gone to the mountains with his friends Sophie, Charles and Félix for winter break. But so far, there hadn’t been enough snow to go skiing. Now, everything was white, the ground was covered with 50 centimetres of snow. It must have snowed all night!

Jean quickly woke up his friends who could hardly believe their eyes. “Finally!” they shouted. There were all heavy sleepers, but nothing could have kept them in bed. They wanted to get out in the snow as quickly as possible. Even the cold didn’t bother them, there was so much to do. First, the friends built a snowman. Then they had a snowball fight. They went to the mountains with the sled and the snowboard. Sophie even brought her ice skates.

The children weren’t the only ones enjoying the snow. Behind them, skiers could be seen riding the skilift and coming down on skis at full speed. There was also a polar bear on skis! Only the snowman was shivering with cold, he wished it were summer. He had a cold and icicles were hanging from his nose.

What? A snowman with a cold and a skiing polar bear? Jean looked around, bewildered. Oh no! He was still in bed, it had all been a dream! Disappointed, he looked out of the window onto the street. But wait a minute! Everything was white!

“It snowed!” shouted Jean excitedly to wake up his friends.
